On the album, Zanzibar’s voice hovers raw and lost in reverie over a carpet of gloriously strummed guitar. It’s Nico-like in its coarseness and vivid spell-casting—and charming.

Dreamy Indie-Rock/Pop

Behind the name Highest Sea is songwriter Leila Zanzibar, whose raw and mystical vocals tell bewitching stories about haunted hearts silently guided by the steady call of the sea. Carried on a wave of melancholic and dreamy noise pop, Highest Sea takes us on a seductive journey. In February 2017 Leila Zanzibar released her debut EP “Haunted Hearts” on Berlin’s label Späti Palace – a mix of melancholic dream noise rock, speed-driven pop melodies, classic indie-pop-sound and poetic lyrics. She's currently performing with Theo Taylor on drums and Tamar Weiss on bass.
